Details for LeJogPlod2010
Here i will add in time my route (Lands end to John O Groats) which at the moment is around 1050 miles long. (rather daunting).
The only fixed points for this walk are the start and finnish, so there is plenty of scope for design around the idividuals choice, Andrew Mc Cloy’s “the lands’s end to John O Groats walk” is good starting point for suggested routes which can be augmented by other peoples accounts of their journeys (see links). I imagine all peoples routes are a compromise missing out many places they would love to traverse but which are major detours. (Iron bridge and Dovedale are two places i would like to have enjoyed).
Daily mileage : 16-17 miles per day would be a good average, but a soft start if need be seems a good idea, a proper sense of what feels acceptable will probably emerge by week two of the continuous plodding.
Start April/May 2010 (at the moment April 20th looks good, sun rise/set around 06:15/20:15). Day length increasing, hopefully this will allow reasonable amount of evening time to find a suitable spot to camp and cook before nightfall.

I’m trying to plan alternative routes to the east (lee) of the pennine way (northern section) if weather is grim, hence one row indicates alternative route marked as 0 milage. (H) indicates potential youth hostel accomodation on that leg, these will be updated regarding availability in the new year.
Distances approximate, gleaned from guides, other peoples accounts, canal logs, google maps and OS maps. shortcuts may present themselves and getting lost could increase distance so an approximate seems the best claim.
Hi John,
how’s the planning going? just had a look at your provisional route – looks good may use it myself in a few years, but i will wait to read your blog as you walk it and any difficulties you encounter. Anyway, hope you have a good xmas and good luck with the final planning stages in the new year.
Hi Andy,
Thanks very much for your good wishes, for planning i now have a few cut up maps and mostly A4 printouts for the first third of my route, i’m hopeing the blog will prove interesting, finding internet cafe’s may not always be easy and i will try to somehow make it a bit different as there are already many interesting ones of completed journeys.
Cheers J.P.
